Welcome to Gambia Support Group..

The CNC GSG Chailey Newick Colts Gambia Support Group is a registered Charity set up to support the Education and Health of the people of Janjanburgh, Gambia and the surrounding area.

This connection stems from one young boy, Mankidy, who is being sponsored by the Chailey Colts Referee and his wife, Mark and Kathryn. We were invited to put together a Colts football tour of the Gambia over a 10 day period in 2006. This was a resounding success and 15 boys played 5 games against schools, villages and FC's in 35 degree heat.

The welcome was so amazing from the Gambians, that four of us resolved to try to make a small financial difference on a more permanent basis.

Since we have set up the charity and raised funds for specific health and education projects and actively promote the educational sponsorship of individuals through school. Most of these individuals would not otherwise be able to go to school at all.

Our acheivements during 2007 and 2008..

1. We now sponsor over 30 children on a permanent basis, with 30 sponsors to match.

2. We have re-roofed and refurbished the main School building when it was condemned as dangerous.

3. We have provided over 200 mosquito nets for families in the area.

4. We took a  bicycle for a midwife so that a pregnant women did not have to travel on donkey carts to the health centre.

5. We have provided substantial amounts of pens, calculators, maths sets, football equipment and other essential items.

6. All of the above has been achieved with Zero administration costs. 100% of all donations are spent directly in Gambia .

7. Any costs of flights, postage, literature, this web site, are paid for personally by individuals.

Aims for the rest of 2008 & 2009 onwards

1. That we have sufficient funds to never let a child down once we have offered a sponsorship.

2. That we continue at Zero administration costs.

3. That we complete the fence to the vegetable garden where currently everything is eaten by the wild pigs and goats..

4. That we take a further 300 mosquito nets for the next visit in February 09.
